Friday night is “All You Can Drink” at Lakeland’s Boots ‘N’ Buckles Saloon from 8pm to 11pm! Unfortunately, today I was the worlds biggest procrastinator. (You know that you are “motivationally challenged” when you can’t even muster up the energy to go out and drink on a Friday night!) I moseyed on out of the house around 8:30 pm… and did I mention that Lakeland is approximately an hour away from my house?
Although I haven’t actually experienced Boots ‘N’ Buckles Saloon yet, I have to admit that the place looked more like “Boots ‘N’ Boring”. It didn’t look like too much was goin on but we were informed that Saturday is the night to go anyway. It’s pretty hard to find it in the first place because it’s located in a shopping plaza and it has a tiny cursive sign in the front that is NOT drunk friendly. Naturally we accidentally passed the place right up. Fortunately for us, in our efforts to turn around we spotted a parking lot that looked promising. Why did it look promising, you ask? Three reasons. Hundreds of jacked up trucks, stadium lights and caution tape.
Realizing that with only 45 minutes left of “free beer” at this point, we might as well go check out the action. We stumbled upon a little bar called “Docs place” that was currently having a truck “Tug of War” in the parking lot. There were hundreds of people gathered around, hollerin’ and cheering. They had a portion of the parking lot in front of the bar roped off for spectators to go outside, watch the contest, take a few shots and enjoy the cool weather. It was a nice change from the smokey bar atmosphere. Apparently the contest started at 9pm but we still appreciated the last few rounds. The winner for this week was a guy named Junior who had a White Ford F350… which by the WAY, is my favorite truck.
Pros: Doc’s Place had a nice wrap around bar, a dance floor, a DJ and two pool tables! My first drink there was a Jack and Coke which was made pretty well. They have buckets of beer (domestic longnecks) for $12 every day of the week! Tonight was ladies night after 9pm and that included $10 “All you can Drink” domestic bottles of beer and well drinks till close. $15 for the men! Another good thing about this bar is that they seem to have events often. Although this was the first Tug-of-War that they’d ever had, I did hear about some sort of spaghetti wrestling. They played newer music and a good amount of country music! The locals that hang out at that bar seemed to be pretty good people too!! All of that coupled with the tug-of-war… I’d say it was a decent place to hang out.
Cons: “Doc’s Place” itself wasn’t as impressive as the festivities outside. Like I said, the drive to Lakeland was over an hour so I hit the little girls room. It was the size of a dirty shoebox that kept getting increasingly more uncomfortable as more and more drunk women piled in waiting for a stall. There were three nasty stalls that couldn’t even close all the way. Peein in the woods would have been a sweet relief! Speaking of things that are nasty… those “bartenders” sure were something else. They made okay drinks and knew how to open a beer at least. Other than that, they were slow to notice the people at the bar, they weren’t very friendly at all and it seemed as though they were trying to make the cute little country bar into some sort of strip club. They dance on the tables and everything, if you’re into that sort of thing! I was lookin to drink, listen to some good music and relax with a few friends… not get a lap dance. The only other thing that was a “con” was the condition of the building. The whole place could use some repairs (like the roof caving in over the DJ booth!)
